The large-magnitude seismic events that recently shook Venezuela have transcended national borders to become a subject of study of historical significance on a global scale.
“Following the seismic doublet that primarily affected the north-central region of the country, specialists and scientific delegations from four continents have arrived in Venezuela to analyze on-site the behavior and exceptional characteristics of the phenomenon,” explained the Minister of People’s Power for Transportation and President of the Commission for Habitability and Infrastructure Evaluation, Francisco Garcés.
Speaking on Radio Nacional de Venezuela (RNV), Garcés explained that the intensity of the energy released and the impact of the event place these seismic movements among the most technically and scientifically significant events recorded in modern seismic history.
The engineer stated, in an exclusive interview with RNV, that the presence of foreign experts and researchers in the affected areas responds to the need to gather fundamental data that will allow for a better understanding of the recorded tectonic dynamics.
Likewise, the exchange of knowledge with Venezuelan professionals and technicians will provide valuable input for updating engineering protocols, infrastructure assessments, and risk management strategies for events of this scale.
“With the continued arrival of international specialists, Venezuela is positioning itself as the epicenter of a comprehensive geological monitoring and data collection,” he told the country during an interview with journalist Isbemar Jiménez.
These efforts not only aim to address and diagnose the national emergency but also to contribute to the global scientific community’s knowledge of prevention and response to large-scale natural events.
