A new dialogue process began this Thursday with a formal meeting between the Venezuelan Government delegation, led by the President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, and a group of former opposition members of the Parliament elected in 2015, headed by Dinorah Figuera.
The meeting, held at the Simón Bolívar Park Convention Center in La Carlota (Caracas), is part of the political rapprochement mechanism instructed by President Delcy Rodríguez, aimed at opening a path to institutional understanding and establishing a work agenda with verifiable milestones.
At this meeting was confirmed the agenda that will be addressed in the in-person meetings between the Government and the former members of the National Assembly elected in 2015, following the telephone conversation between Deputy Jorge Rodríguez and former Deputy Dinorah Figuera.
On that opportunity both parties agreed that the first round of dialogue would take place in Caracas, focusing on addressing the needs of the victims of the double earthquake of June 24, strengthening democracy, and upholding political rights and guarantees.
The delegation of the National Government, coordinated by Delcy Rodríguez, will be composed by Jorge Rodríguez, Ana María San Juan, Jorge Arreaza, América Pérez, Genesis Garvett, and Pedro Infante. The technical support committee ir formed by Carolina García Carreño, José Omar Molina, and Edgardo Toro.
On their part, the National Assembly of 2015 will participate with a technical commission chaired by Dinorah Figuera and composed of Marco Aurelio Quiñones, Ramón López, Jorge Millán, Juan Miguel Matheus, and Sergio Vergara, as well as its respective committee of technical support made up of Macario González, Desiree Barboza, Julio César Moreno, and Elimar Díaz.
In statements announced on Saturday, August 1, both delegations agree that the objective of the process is to open a path of inclusive dialogue with verifiable goals, oriented towards institutional stability and the urgent attention to those affected by the double earthquake, with international support.
