The National Assembly (AN) expressed its solidarity this Tuesday with the victims of the double earthquake that struck Venezuela last June 24. Likewise, it voiced its support for the actions of care to the humanitarian emergency.
The Second Vice President of the Legislative Branch, Deputy Grecia Colmenares, in that sense presented an agreement after lamenting the worst catastrophe the country has experienced in the last 100 years.
She explained that, in a matter of seconds, the lives of millions of Venezuelans changed, with a displacement of the earth’s surface, as experts describe it: «We have mourned irreparable losses, we have felt fear with each aftershock, and the collective pain with a natural catastrophe that touched the deep soul of Venezuelans,» she emphasized.
Colmenares acknowledged the efforts of rescuers, volunteers, men and women of the Armed Forces, Police corps, Firefighters, Civil Protection, and medical personnel, who did not hesitate for a single second to fulfill their oath to serve those in need.
She also condemned those who seek to exploit the tragedy and create a spectacle through social media and news outlets, showing no respect for the pain of the victims and Venezuelan families.
Crucial Action:
Another of the actions recognized by the Second Vice President of the National Assembly is the fundamental, crucial, and leading role of the President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, for her courageous spirit and leadership to convene the people in the rescue, search, and stability.
She emphasized that, thanks to the coordination of the national leader, could be received rescue brigades and health teams from various countries around the world who decided to come from different latitudes to support Venezuela, with a spirit of brotherhood.
Likewise, she highlighted the heroic spirit of the Venezuelans, who, with unwavering determination from the very beginning came to the aid of their neighbors, without indifference, and with the aim of saving lives.
To release assets immediately:
The agreement establishes the cessation of sanctions and coercive measures, and the immediate unblocking of the resources and financial assets of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela abroad.
The parliamentarian stated that resources must be allocated to the affected areas, and therefore, both international organizations and foreign governments are urged to release the assets for humanitarian reasons.
Housing Laws:
In light of this national emergency, the agreement reiterates that Parliament will focus on drafting laws, within the existing legal frameworks, to provide the State with the tools to allocate decent housing.
In such sense, the Executive Branch immediately designed the creation of temporary camps in the most impacted areas to guarantee integral care for those families who were left homeless.
It was also agreed to support and promote temporary camps with institutional support, and to keep them equipped while the final plans for the allocation and reconstruction of housing are implemented.
