Venezuela and IAEA evaluate advances in technical and scientific cooperation

The Minister of People’s Power for Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez Ramírez, held a series of work meetings this Wednesday at the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria. The meetings focused on evaluating the progress of technical cooperation between Venezuela and the IAEA, as well as identifying opportunities to strengthen new strategic areas of collaboration.

Through her channel on Telegram, Minister Jiménez Ramírez explained that this work agenda is being developed on behalf of the President in Charge, Delcy Rodríguez.

The first meeting, as she pointed out, was held with Raúl Ramírez García, representative of the IAEA’s Department of Technical Cooperation, who is part of the Technical Cooperation Program team with Venezuela, attached to the Latin America and Caribbean Division. She was accompanied by the Venezuelan Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Vienna, Claudia Salerno.

“During the meeting, we reviewed the advances reached within the framework of technical cooperation with the IAEA, as well as opportunities to strengthen new strategic areas for the 2028-2029 cycle,” emphasized Minister Gabriela Jiménez Ramírez.

Likewise, the meeting addressed topics of interest “related to the peaceful uses of nuclear energy in various fields, such as radiotherapy, radiopharmaceuticals, agriculture, and microplastics analysis, in addition to specialized technical training.”

Subsequently, Minister Gabriela Jiménez Ramírez held a working meeting with Elena Buglova, Director of the IAEA’s Division of Nuclear Physical Security, and Ronald Pacheco, Head of the Radiation Source Control and Regulatory Infrastructure Section of the agency’s Division of Nuclear Technological Security.

“In this forum, we advanced in strengthening nuclear physical security,” she detailed.

Minister Gabriela Jiménez Ramírez reiterated Venezuela’s commitment to international scientific cooperation and the use of nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes, in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals.

«From Venezuela, we reiterate the importance of guaranteeing conditions that allow for the full development of technical and scientific assistance projects in the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy, which are fundamental to continuing to strengthen national capabilities for the benefit of sustainable development, innovation, and the well-being of our people,» she concluded.
