Minister for Hydrocarbons Paula Henao stated that Venezuela currently ranks ninth globally in gas reserves and is projected to reach fourth place following the quantification of resources within its territorial waters and offshore areas.
The head of the Hydrocarbons office presented this outlook during the 28th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), held in Russia, where she also highlighted the export of the first unit of Venezuelan gas, according to the ministry.
Henao emphasized the importance of international technological cooperation to mitigate the effects of climate change and address sector challenges related to energy security, sustainability, and affordable access to energy.
The Venezuelan delegation was led by the Sectoral Vice President for Economy, Calixto Ortega, and also Henao; Deputy Minister for Gas Cindy Rondón; Venezuela’s Ambassador to Russia, Jesús Salazar Velázquez; the national representative to the GECF, Ronny Romero; and the Director General of Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) in Russia, Hoglys Martínez.
During the meeting, which coincided with the 25th anniversary of the GECF, Venezuela proposed expanding cooperation among member countries to increase the organization’s influence in the international market. The forum brings together countries that hold nearly 70% of the world’s proven gas reserves.
