The general secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, reaffirmed this Monday the full support of the political organization for the acting president, Delcy Rodríguez. This statement comes in response to the kidnapping of constitutional president Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
During a PSUV press conference, Cabello was emphatic in expressing: «President Nicolás Maduro was kidnapped, and given this fact, that he is kidnapped, comrade Delcy Rodríguez assumes the acting presidency.» This way the political leader confirmed institutional continuity.
Cabello added that the United Socialist Party of Venezuela supports the management and any decisions comrade Delcy will have to make.
The PSUV general secretary linked this event to what he described as an attack by imperialism against Venezuela. He denounced that the aggression not only included the kidnapping of the country’s top leaders but also provoked numerous fatal victims.
He recalled that the attack left a large number of Venezuelan men and women dead, many of them civilians, women and men who had nothing to do with any conflict. He denounced that these people were caught in a terrible explosion that took their lives.
In this context, the PSUV positions itself as a fundamental pillar of institutional support for the management of Acting President Delcy Rodríguez. The party maintains its commitment with the defense of national sovereignty and the stability of the Venezuelan State against what is qualified as a foreign aggression.
