National Cacao Day was first observed in 2015, following an initiative led by the *Fundación Nuestra Tierra* (Our Land Foundation) that garnered the support of over 23,000 signatures for its official establishment. The goal is to safeguard the crop’s genetic heritage and encourage both domestic consumption and the export of high-quality chocolate.
