The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, reiterated his call to the Venezuelan opposition to join the electoral process:

«Do register your candidates and participate actively in the elections to be held on May 25th, to elect governors, legislative councils, and deputies to the National Assembly,» he urged in a telephone interview with Venezolana de Televisión, as reported Prensa Presidencial (Presidential Press).

The head of state expressed his desire to see the various opposition factions registered and participating in the elections.

He affirmed that the political reality in Venezuela is diverse and complex, and acknowledged that there are several opposition sectors in the country.

The national leader challenged opposition representatives to reach out to their supporters and give them the prominence they deserve: «Why don’t you give prominence to the opposition people?» he asked.

President Maduro not only called for participation, but once again opened the door to a necessary dialogue between all the country’s political forces:

«The upcoming election is shaping up as an opportunity not only to reaffirm the commitment to the Bolivarian Revolution, but also as a space for the opposition to express itself and participate in building a shared future for Venezuela,» he emphasized.

The President made his remarks in connection with the holding this Saturday of the grassroots assemblies convened by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) to nominate candidates for the May 25 elections, which enjoyed massive popular participation.
