As part of the activation of the Hydrocarbons Engine, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, provided progress on the production of petroleum and its derivatives, as part of the objective of boosting the petrochemical industry.
In this regard, the Head of State provided information through four (49) visits made to different states to demonstrate the development of the sector in the following regions:
Zulia State:
During the visit to the Venezuela parish, in the Lagunillas municipality of Zulia State, progress in hydrocarbons production in the sector was demonstrated, under the Petrozamora joint venture scheme.
Company representatives were present, such as the Deputy Director of Production for the West, Gerardo Gómez, who stated that, thanks to the Productive Independence Plan, a sustained increase in production has been achieved under a productive participation scheme.
Julio Castillo, president of the Petrozamora joint venture, emphasized that the steam injection process allows for increased well production, as the additional barrel per active well has contributed significantly to production growth.
Among the data of interest are the following points detailing the increase in the state’s hydrocarbons sector between 2024 and February 2025:
– Production increased from 30,000 barrels in April 2024 to 60,000 barrels at the end of February 2025, with a projection of 100,000 barrels per day by the end of this year.
– 780 wells have been activated to date.
Falcón State:
At the Amuay Refining Complex, in the Judibana parish of the Los Taques municipality, the general manager of the Paraguaná Refining Complex, Eleazar Soriano, reported that the complex began with a monthly production of 150 barrels of asphalt, and has currently reached 600,000 barrels per month, with a projection of more than 800,000 barrels per month by the last quarter of 2025.
This increase in asphalt is for the national supply of asphalt for roads, highways, towns, agricultural roads, and for the National Road Plan, which must be improved. This will allow for the continued increase in asphalt exports so that Venezuela can regain its position as a major producer.
He also highlighted that since 2019, sustained asphalt production has begun solely to meet the local paving needs of the market, demonstrating the sector’s reach beyond Venezuelan borders.
Anzoátegui State:
From the Petrochemical and Oil Industrial Complex “Division General José Antonio Anzoátegui“, workers at the Oriente Fertilizer Plant praised the progress in ammonia production, which has increased from 33,000 to 63,000 tons per month.
They also highlighted the increase in urea production, which rose from 48,000 tons to 93,000 tons per month, with the goal of meeting the surplus and, consequently, producing, supplying, and exporting.
It is important to mention that this increase in production will indirectly benefit approximately five municipalities of Anzoátegui state.
