The country’s state security forces and intelligence agencies dismantled a new terrorist operation by irregular groups linked to the far right wing, which sought, among other things, to attack military forts, as reported the Sectoral Vice President for Politics, Citizen Security and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, at a press conference this Thursday.
During his speech, Cabello detailed that this operation was called «Oro», in honor of the deceased terrorists Óscar Pérez and Ronald Ojeda:
«They had three fundamental actions to carry out, to cause an impact and collect,» he stressed. He also explained that these were to attack Fort Conopoima in Bolívar state; Fort Tabacare in Barinas state, and the kidnapping of the magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice, Maikel Moreno, to take him out of Venezuela in a helicopter:
«They were going to attack Fort Conopoima, believing that the country’s arsenals were there. If that were true, imagine the level of criminal mind of those who were thinking of placing explosives in a military fort that is in a city. Imagine if that were true, imagine the number of dead,» he said.
Likewise, the minister pointed out that the detainees have confessed and have provided information to continue the investigations.
He also specified that the alert that originated the investigation of Operation Oro, which intended, among other things, to attack military forts; was given by the people of Lara state, who noticed the presence of various people outside the area.
The presence of the mercenaries was notified by the people: «Fortunately there is something that the president calls <>, because this information of the arrival of this mercenary to the state of Lara was given by the people,» he indicated.
He also pointed out that «there is no way to disassociate political violence from this kind of violence, because they (the right wing) were the promoters of this type of violence,» he added, while assuring that «the best sign that can be for the country is to have dismantled this group of terrorists and those who actively participate know that justice will come to them.»
In a press conference, the official said that this was going to be carried out under Operation Oro. For this reason, several sergeants and lieutenants were captured, among which are included Damián Alexander Rojas Díaz, who participated in Operation Aurora in 2019.
He added that the «American mercenary,» Matthew VanDyke, headed such a scheme, to which he linked María Corina Machado.
