Relatives of those detained for 28-J reject being used as a political banner

The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, held a meeting with relatives of those detained in the post-electoral context of July 28, in which they expressed their rejection of the opposition for using those deprived of liberty as a political banner, when they themselves were the ones who used them to generate the violent context.

Saab added that the relatives of the inmates would like ‘the best’ for them: «They do not want to be misused by extremist political factors who were responsible and who now would wish the best or have sought to use the relatives and the detainees after they incited and instigated them, as if they were cannon fodder,» Saab said at a press conference.

The meeting took place within the framework of the International Human Rights Day. In this context, he confirmed that reviews will be carried out through the Judiciary to some detainees on probation or release: «We have explained to the relatives today something that I will confirm to you: all the reviews of measures that could be carried out until now are attributable to the Venezuelan State and the justice bodies. By reviewing the cases, we can reach conclusions of a procedural nature, I repeat, that may mean a review of the measure and take us to trial later in those cases where there is a reason for a conviction,» he said.

In this sense, the highest authority of the Public Ministry also offered a balance of the National School of Prosecutors, where 87 students have graduated from different training programs. At the same time, he added that by 2024 they will complete a postgraduate degree in Human Rights.
