Venezuela rejects illegal license granted by Guyana to oil companies

Through a communiqué, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly rejected the illegal oil production license granted by the Government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana to oil companies in the Stabroek Block, with which it is intended to have energy resources in undelimited maritime areas.

In this sense, the authorities of the Venezuelan Government “categorically reject the sequence of illegitimate acts perpetrated by Guyana, by radically violating international law, through a chain of abuses and transgressions that are outside international legality and compliance with its commitments established with Venezuela on December 14 in Argyle”.

The text highlighted that Guyana does not have sovereign rights over the aforementioned marine areas, such that any action within these limits contravenes the regulations and agreements established by international law:

“Venezuela declares forcefully that maritime issues between the two countries cannot be resolved unilaterally by Guyana, and denounces that the ultimate goal of these actions is to attack the people of Venezuela and attack their sovereign rights,” as highlights the communiqué.
