“Las Paredes Hablan” Plan exalts culture through the community artists contest

Through the plastic arts, the “Las Paredes Hablan” (Walls Speak) Plan vindicates history, identity and values through the beautification of common spaces with the participation of artists from the communities:

It is an expression of art in the street,” as defines plastic artist Juvenal Ravelo, who accompanies “Las Paredes Hablan”, whose genesis is the artistic program “De fila en fila” (From row to row), initiated by muralist Víctor Rodríguez and deployed, mainly, in the San Agustín parish.

The expansion of the “De fila en fila” initiative, led by the Great Mission Barrio Nuevo, Barrio Tricolor, resulted from an instruction issued by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, who proposed giving it “the artistic, poetic touch to bring characters from the neighborhood, historical people” with the active presence of youth.

In this sense, Rauber López, from Nueva Esparta state, reiterated that the fundamental objective “is to highlight cultural, religious and tourist values” based on the competition of the Ministry of People’s Power for Public Works and the Great Mission Barrio Nuevo, Barrio Tricolor.

Now more young people are joining, the idea is to spread art and get the community to collaborate. What good is it for an artist to paint or make a drawing, only for anyone to come and damage it the next day? Our idea is for everyone to collaborate so that they feel that it is theirs,” López reflected.

Precisely, the Venezuelan president pointed out the need to convene “all genres, styles and diversity of mural art” that, in the future, will allow the consolidation of a “diverse, colorful, brilliant muralist school in Venezuela.”

On the other hand, the national person in charge of the “Las Paredes Hablan” Plan, Ana Alviarez, stressed that the artistic initiative has captured new talents and incorporated them into “beautiful work that, between now and December, will allow us to welcome the year with beautiful communities”.
