The national Executive approved this Thursday a Special Plan of Medical Specialties necessary for Venezuela, through university scholarships for health professionals in countries such as China, India, Russia and Cuba, in addition to opening new postgraduate courses at the University of Sciences of Health (USC) Hugo Chávez Frías.
This was announced by the constitutional president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, during the graduation ceremony for 4,000 new professionals and specialists of the 2023-2 promotion of UCS, which took place in the Poliedro de Caracas with the presence of youth from across the country and from nations in Latin America and the Middle East.
The head of state commented that one of the graduates, Valentín, from Amazonas state, asked him to help him pursue specialized studies abroad. This request made him reflect, since Venezuela has the best free and quality medical studies, but it would not hurt to open a door with the allied countries that are powers in medicine:
“And I kept thinking: hey, what if we open a Special Plan for Medical Specialties necessary for the country in leading countries like China, India, Russia, for example, and we give some of you a scholarship to go specialize there?”, he expressed, when submitting this idea for consideration, which was applauded by the new professionals.
“Medicine study scholarships abroad approved! Valentín, approved, we are going to do it, and I am committed to you, boys, girls, through the Hugo Chávez University of Health Sciences”, he added, after assigning this task to the government sectoral vice president, Gabriela Jiménez, to articulate immediately with the authorities of those friendly and sisterly nations of the world.
President Maduro reported that to date, Venezuela has more than 42,794 students enrolled in national training programs in medicine: «And this should fill us with pride because, in the short and medium term, we are going to have all the specialists that Venezuela’s public health needs, to care for and cure the people, promote health and that should continue.»
Given this favorable panorama, he informed that the Hugo Chávez University of Health Sciences will open bio-analysis and electro-medicine courses by 2024 to students who enrolled in the National University Entrance System (SNI).
“We need bio-analysis and electro-medicine a lot, in order to be able to advance in the attention of the people and in the repair and perfect functioning of the high-tech systems that we use”, he mentioned.
He also announced that the University will also offer postgraduate courses in medical oncology, intensive care for adults and otorhinolaryngology.
He insisted to the boys and girls who are graduating in health, as well as to the current students, on the need to build and strengthen the National Public Health System, in the Barrio Adentro 1 and 2 Missions, the hospital system and the Venezuelan Institute of Social Security (IVSS).
“Therefore, the objective is to build a powerful universal, public, free health system of the highest quality in the world. For whom? For the people of Venezuela who deserve to have the right to health, to the public health system and here we train them by graduating professionals”, he explained.
Finally, he congratulated the new health professionals and specialists in Venezuela and announced two special gifts: a modern tablet for their professional practice and a special bonus for everyone.
