The Venezuelan Government demanded on Tuesday to the member countries of the European Union (EU) to stop the recent unilateral actions against the Venezuelan economy, since they directly affect the people and represent a setback for the process of dialogue between representatives of the Government and the opposition.
During a meeting with diplomatic representatives of EU countries accredited in Venezuela, held on Tuesday at the Seat of the Chancellory in Caracas, Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza described these sanctions as unusual, following the same strategy of intervention perpetrated by the President of the United States, Donald Trump.
“How does this help the dialogue, how does that help Venezuela, how does that help the people, how does that help the hundreds of thousands of Portuguese, Spaniards, Italians and people from other European allied nations that live, make life and will coexist with all of us in this Bolivarian Homeland? “he asked.
He recalled that these sanctions were applied in the middle of the meeting held this Monday between a Venezuelan Presidential commission and bondholders, to renegotiate the terms of the foreign debt of the Republic and of Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA).
Arreaza pointed out that both actions promoted by the National Government, such as dialogue and the process of renegotiation of the external debt, are affected by these sanctions. In that sense, he referred to the will of the Venezuelan Government to work together to overcome this moment.
“We want to overcome this moment, we want that with diplomacy and dialogue we return to the understanding between our governments, to the respect in our internal affairs, from you towards us, fundamentally. We do not interfere in the internal affairs of European countries. We want to reactivate our political, economic, academic, and technological agendas in the agricultural field”, he said.
