Venezuela refines details for opening of border with Colombia

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, highlighted on Monday that preparations continue for the opening of the borders with Colombia, scheduled to take place on September 26:

Tomorrow (Tuesday) there is a meeting with the Colombian Minister of Transportation. On Wednesday, will be held a videoconference with the Ministers of Commerce, Economy of Colombia and Venezuela and Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez. Refining the details for a good, satisfactory opening”, explained the dignitary.

Similarly, the head of state detailed that the Minister of Defense, Vladímir Padrino López, was in contact with his Colombian counterpart, Iván Velásquez:

«We are coordinating all the details so that this first step is an ambitious step to move towards where we must go: A total, absolute and free opening of the border between Venezuela and Colombia”, stressed the Bolivarian leader.

Regarding this issue, the leader of the Venezuelan Executive thanked his counterpart Gustavo Petro for his position in favor of opening the common border, also showing his interest in the development of the population in the binational border.

The opening of borders between Venezuela and Colombia is scheduled to take place on September 26, in what the Venezuelan president described as an important first step in relations between the two countries, deteriorated after the arrival in power of former president Iván Duque.

It is also worth remembering that will restart the flights between Venezuela and Colombia on that Monday, thus being another sign of the rapprochement between both governments.

After multiple attacks (both verbal and physical and military maneuvers) promoted from Colombia against the Venezuelan people and government, then president of Colombia, Duque acknowledged Juan Guaidó as interim president of Venezuela.

As a result of this, the legitimate Government of Venezuela headed by the leader of the revolution, Nicolás Maduro Moros, decided to break diplomatic relations with Bogotá.

After the victory in the last elections of President Gustavo Petro, the arrival of Colombian ambassador Armando Benedetti in Caracas on August 29 was a sign of a new vigor in diplomatic relations. The borders between the two countries will open after being closed for nearly seven years.
