President Nicolás Maduro announces creation of National Center for Regenerative Medicine

With the aim of promoting the development of cell therapy in the country, President Nicolás Maduro announced this Wednesday, from the headquarters of the IVIC (Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research), in Miranda state, the creation of the National Center for Regenerative Medicine.

During his participation in the workshop dedicated to Innovation and Research for Good Living and Sovereignty, the Head of State explained that this new center of Venezuelan scientific knowledge will be developed from the experience of the Cellular Therapy Unit of the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research (IVIC), with the aim of attending health cases linked to serious diseases of the skin, cartilage and bones.

In this sense, he stressed the need to establish coordination mechanisms with hospitals in the national territory to expand the benefits of clinical studies with stem cells so that “everyone has their benefit and we, in addition, can advance”.

Emphasizing that science and technology must be applied “to health, to life and to living,” he instructed to form a network of medical scientists who join forces in the deployment of the National Center for Regenerative Medicine.

Venezuela at the vanguard:

He stressed that Venezuela is at the vanguard in the use of stem cells in cell therapies for the recovery of sight in patients with corneas destroyed by chemical products, whose success is summed up in the progressive healing of Jonathan Olivares:

“I never thought I could recover my sight (…) I was able to recover my faith, my sight and continue with my treatment,” said Olivares, who is the first patient in Latin America to undergo the experimental clinical study for cell extraction.

Venezuela will say “present” at the World Summit against Climate Change:

In this context, Maduro announced that Venezuela will present its scientific and technological achievements at the World Summit against Climate Change, which will take place soon in Egypt.

In the same way, he indicated that in the next few days will be inaugurated the International Fair of the Iran-Venezuela scientific, industrial and technological alliance:

“More than 300 high science and technology companies are coming to Venezuela,” explained the national president, highlighting the importance of this event that will offer the most advanced technological developments in the world in the country.
