Interparliamentary Friendship Group of Venezuela sends message of condolences to Japan

The Venezuela-Japan Interparliamentary Friendship Group sent a message of condolence and solidarity to the people of Japan for the assassination of the former Prime Minister of that country, Shinzo Abe.

Through a communiqué, the body rejected this act that ended the life of the 67-year-old former senior official, who was campaigning in support of the re-election of Kei Sato, a member of the Upper House of the Japanese Parliament.

Following, the full text of the communiqué:

The Venezuela-Japan Interparliamentary Friendship Group extends its heartfelt condolences and solidarity to the people of Japan and our brother parliamentarians of the Diet of Japan on the occasion of the tragic death of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in a reprehensible attack that occurred on July 8, 2022 in the city of Nara.

Abe, who in life was an outstanding political leader, a leader in the Liberal Democratic Party and the longest-serving prime minister for Japan, was also a respected politician in the constitutional history of such an important nation.

We roundly condemn the attack that took his life, an act that represents for us an unforgivable and totally punishable act. We pray for justice and that those responsible be punished by justice and condemned by the peoples of the world.

We extend this message of condolences, strength and peace to the brothers of the Japan-Venezuela Parliamentary Friendship League, to their families and especially to his wife, Akie Abe.

May his soul rest in peace!”
