The Electoral Power denounces the interventionist attitude of the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, and will demand the pertinent explanations.
The High Representative is unaware of the rights of Venezuela and seriously compromises the meaning, spirit and purpose of the invitation that was extended to him last May, as well as the agreement signed between the parties, which establishes:
“The Electoral Observation Mission of the European Union and its members will maintain a strict conduct of impartiality, objectivity, independence, and non-interference in the electoral process and respect for national sovereignty and self-determination during the performance of their mandate.”
The National Electoral Council ratifies that the legitimacy of the electoral processes does not depend on the recognition made by a foreign body, but on its congruence with our legal system, the basis of the legitimacy of the process resides in the will of Venezuelans, who in the exercise of their sovereignty they participate in democracy, without accepting foreign interference or intervention.
