COVID: New batch of Sputnik V vaccines will arrive in the country starting this Monday

Starting this Monday, Venezuela will receive a new batch of Russian Sputnik V vaccines, in order to advance the immunization plan and application of the second doses to the Venezuelan population.

This was reported by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, during his participation in the program “Aquí con Ernesto Villegas” (Here with Ernesto Villegas), broadcast this Sunday by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).

The national president affirmed that Russia “has resolved some problems in the production companies and as of Monday (September 6), will arrive new batches of vaccines for the application of the second doses, and the application of these doses is expected that by the end of September”, he said.

Heading for 70% of the population immunized:

In this context, he stressed that Venezuela has designed an alternative vaccination plan, to meet the goal and arrive to October with 70 percent of the population vaccinated:

«Currently we have 30 percent of Venezuelans immunized and we hope that in September we will reach 50 percent, and in October we will reach the established goal”, he emphasized.

He anticipated that they hope to incorporate the vaccination plan for children and young people up to 18 years of age, in October: «I think that despite all the sabotage, Venezuela has a fairly significant pace to vaccinate the population”, he stressed.

Sabotage from COVAX:

Similarly, President Maduro pointed out that it is estimated that in the next few days Venezuela will also receive the first vaccines through the COVAX mechanism “and we hope that all vaccines will arrive by October, and we will be able to comply with the immunization program and vaccinate six millions of Venezuelans”.

In this regard, he denounced that there are international officials who “are slowing down delivery through the Global Access Fund for COVID-19 Vaccines (COVAX). And this mechanism was denounced by Venezuela, because corrupt officials lent themselves to sabotage, and now we hope that they comply”, he added.
