Venezuela repudiates new UK sanctions

Through his account on the Twitter social network, the Chancellor of the Republic, Jorge Arreaza, issued a communiqué on behalf of the Bolivarian Government, where he stressed that Venezuela rejects the decision by the United Kingdom to impose sanctions against Alex Saab, who currently is being held against his will in a prison in Cape Verde.

The communiqué highlights the following:

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its categorical rejection of the British Government’s decision by attempting to impose unilateral sanctions against citizen Alex Saab, a Venezuelan diplomat, subjected to judicial persecution by the US government.

This decision, contrary to International Law, reflects the immorality of the British Government in establishing itself as an alleged anti-corruption judge in the world, while acting as one of the main responsible for the theft of assets belonging to all Venezuelans. The damage to human lives and limitations for the care of the pandemic as a consequence of the sequestration of resources from Venezuela in the United Kingdom, must be investigated and punished. The British Government of the moment is the main responsible for this assault and, sooner or later, it will have to render accounts before international justice.

The imposition of sanctions on citizens who were dedicated to facilitating access to food for the Venezuelan people, circumventing the limitations of the inhuman US blockade, is a criminal act that corresponds to the failed strategy of causing damage to the institutional framework of Venezuela, exposing once again the erratic British policy towards Venezuela.

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will continue to denounce before the International Community the shameless action of the British Government, whose current actions are not far from that of its pirates and corsairs, always coveting the resources of others, outside of International Law and civility”.

Venezuela faces not only attacks by the United States government, the United Kingdom has also joined the persecution of Venezuelan resources, including the two billion dollars in Venezuelan gold, while on the other hand, Washington awaits the extradition of diplomat Alex Saab, who is currently in the hands of the Cape Verdean government, who has denied the request of not transferring him to North America on the eve of an unfounded trial”.
