Hernandez: It would be irresponsible to assign a date to make the referendum

It would be irresponsible for the National Electoral Council (CNE) to point at any date for the recall referendum, since the electoral institution is poised right now in completing the phases in order to know if it can be proceeded or not to the next stage, as reiterated on Thursday rector Socorro Hernandez exclusively for the program “En la Palestra” (At the board) broadcast by the Informative channel of RNV. “Really, us, as officials of the National Electoral Council at this moment we can not absolutely advance on no date, it would be irresponsible for us to make a remark of this nature, among other things, because there are no dates set, there may have ideas, there may have opinions”, said Hernandez.
She recalled that as rectors they have on their shoulders a responsibility for peace in the country, stressing that “We must complete the phase in which we are to effectively know whether or not can proceed to the next stage, and for the next stage we will announce the schedule to the country, depending on if that is going to happen”.
The rector of the CNE said that the statements given by rector Luis Emilio Rondón are a personal and interested opinion. “It seems more like a political actor, really rather than the condition of a rector as it should be, because our responsibility is very high”.
Regarding the initiative of the workers of the Electoral Power who introduced an appeal before the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) to request protective measures to the headquarters of the CNE at a national level because they felt threatened by the violent demonstrations by opposition parties, she said: “with previous experiences of violence they felt the need” to protect themselves as well as the headquarters.
