Venezuela and the UN coordinate the deactivation of antipersonnel mines in Apure

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela coordinates with the United Nations (UN), the deactivation of antipersonnel mines, to support the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, in the de-mining of the border areas in which Colombian armed groups have planted them.

The information was offered by the Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs, Jorge Arreaza, through his account on the Twitter social network @jaarreaza, where he explained that the specialized assistance of the UN will be technical and technological update:

The provision of technical assistance and advice on capacity development, includes the exchange of best practices; technological consistency, including through the exchange of mine action techniques and technologies and support in the design and implementation of rehabilitation and reintegration programs for mine victims”, reads a press release from the Venezuelan Chancellory.

On April 2, the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela sent a communication to the UN, through which it requested support, in compliance with the commitments derived from the Ottawa Treaty.
