Indira Alfonzo explains the schedule of the new electoral process

A total of 16 audits will be carried out before, during and after the electoral process on December 6, when the deputies to the National Assembly (AN) will be elected, as ratified the president of the National Electoral Council, Indira Alfonzo.

During an interview on the program “Aqui Con Ernesto Villegas” (Here with Ernesto Villegas), she specified that voters, organizations with political ends, national observers and international accompaniment participate in the auditing process.

“Just as the issue of software, hardware, the very consolidation of the voting machine and the very trajectory that guarantees that there is one vote for a voter”, she highlighted, noting that it is a completely encrypted process.

The head of the electoral body stressed that, despite the pandemic, the CNE guarantees a process with optimal conditions so that all Venezuelans can exercise their right to vote.

The pandemic has been as decisive for the Venezuelan electoral process as it has been for 26 other countries in the world. The right to life makes us incorporate in each of the electoral processes a strategic biosafety plan”, highlighted Alfonzo.

She also highlighted that 90% of the political, national and regional organizations and representatives of indigenous communities in the country, which are registered with the CNE and have been authorized to participate in this constitutional process, have been heard.

“We are demonstrating with facts that on December 6 the people will elect the deputies and deputies who will give us a new Legislative Power, who will fulfill the functions that correspond to them,” she said.

She pointed out that the electoral conditions are identical to those that occurred in 2010 and 2015. She added that nowadays the demographic index is higher, because in 1999 there were a little more than 11 million voters while today we exceed 20 million.

Alfonzo recalled that the Supreme Court of Justice asked the CNE “to review the demographic index so that the parallel system established by the Constitution itself achieves a better balance between proportionality and nominality.”

Therefore, from 167 we went to 277 male and female deputies.

Regarding the electoral process, she stressed that the CNE is preparing a didactic and pedagogical video to guide voters through the agency’s web portal about the entire biosafety process, so that they know how the new electoral process will be. She stressed that the electoral horseshoe is maintained but with a sanitary procedure.

The voting machine has an integrated system. “You will not have the separate card and the machine to select, these are completely different machines”, she explained.

In addition, she pointed out that the CNE is studying the possibility of holding the elections in two days, due to the physical spaces that are being evaluated and due to the amount of attendance at the voting center.

We are talking about 18 hours; we are evaluating that and we are going to define it long before the elections so that we all know them”.

The pandemic made the CNE evaluate the Venezuelan tradition and culture in this new electoral process.

In this regard, the rector of the CNE stressed that the use of indelible ink is ruled out, because the new machines with an encrypted system guarantee that there is only one vote per voter.
