From the emblematic Concha Acústica (Acoustic Shell) “27 de Febrero”, in Miranda state, the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, gave a start to the Great Mission Grandfathers and Grandmothers of the Homeland, a social program that is added to the New Generation Great Missions. This project seeks to comprehensively serve the precursor and founding generation of the country, in which four essential vertices were established for its development:
1. Health and Food: Axis focused on improving the quality of life of older adults, will give renewed impetus to health and nutritional care. In this sense, the revitalization of the Smile Mission stands out, which ensures dental care for older adults. Likewise the implementation of the “Oyendo más” (Hearing More) program, focused on hearing health. Vision also receives special attention with the “Ver Milagro” (See Miracle) initiative, which provides lenses and cataract treatments. In addition, access to essential medicines is guaranteed and a specialized CLAP is introduced, which promotes a healthy diet adapted to the needs of the elderly.
2. Integral Protection: The social protection of older adults is strengthened with the introduction of the “ZRC Program”, which offers shoes, clothing and mattresses to those who need them most. This program not only seeks to cover basic needs, but also to promote dignity and well-being, to ensure that older adults live with the comfort and respect they deserve.
3. Organization: Likewise, community organization is reinforced with the creation of grandparents’ circles, which will serve as support and meeting platforms for older adults. These circles are the heart of active participation in the Great Mission, with the objective of establishing thousands of them throughout the country, and with this organizational effort, it is expected that the National Congress of Grandmothers and Grandfathers of the Homeland will be held on May 29, a milestone in this process of organization and empowerment.
4. House of Grandfathers and Grandmothers: Finally, the social infrastructure is expanded with the projection of installing 335 grandparents’ houses, spaces dedicated to the meeting, recreation and assistance of elder adults. These houses will be points of reference in each municipality, where the elderly can receive support and services adapted to their needs, to promote their integration and participation in the community.
This set of initiatives highlights the commitment of the national government to the well-being and inclusion of older adults, a fact that ensures that they are an active and valued part of Venezuelan society. The activation of this Great Mission represents a firm commitment to the elderly population, promoting their well-being and their active inclusion in Venezuelan society.
