This Saturday arrived 73 tons of humanitarian aid to Venezuela

A shipment with 73 tons of humanitarian aid from the European Union (EU), arrived in our country to combat Covid-19, with the support of Spain, Portugal and the United Nations.

“We are talking about 73 tons of medical supplies, fundamentally we are talking about medicines, some vaccines for various pathologies, protective equipment, equipment for water sanitation, that is, the entire plan that the Venezuelan government has designed” for the protection of the people, said the Vice Chancellor for Europe, Yván Gil, during a broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión.

Gil thanked the European Union, as well as the governments of Portugal and Spain for this initiative. In addition, he indicated that this contribution joins the more than 1,500 tons of medical supplies and materials for protection that have arrived in the country, amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

The shipment was received at the Simón Bolívar International Airport, La Guaira state. Duccio Bandini, representative of the EU, was present at the delivery ceremony, who pointed out that they have facilitated the arrival of this humanitarian material to the country as part of the fight against the pandemic.

For his part, the representative of the United Nations Development Program (Undp), Jan Harfst, stressed that this organization through its specialized agencies and Secretary General António Guterres are at the forefront of the response to this pandemic that is hitting the humanity.

“WHO and Unicef bring this humanitarian assistance to be distributed to the most vulnerable groups, who are the most affected by the pandemic and the economic situation facing the country,” said the humanitarian coordinator.

He added that the UN works in close coordination with all the structures of the Venezuelan government and all the actors that may have a productive role in identifying the needs of vulnerable groups.
