The permanent representative of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the UN-Geneva, Jorge Valero, reiterated this Wednesday the disowning and firm rejection by the Venezuelan Government to the «content, conclusions and recommendations» of the report prepared on the basis of a Resolution that rejects from its origins, and because «at no time has been provided consent nor supplies for its preparation».
The forceful position of Venezuela was exposed in the 44th ordinary session of the UN Human Rights Council, before the presentation of the report on Venezuela by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, derived from Resolution 42/25 of the aforementioned Council, that the South American country does not acknowledge, and which is considered as an imposition over a sovereign State.
The aforementioned Resolution establishes the creation of an international mission to assess the situation of human rights in Venezuela, and «was adopted by a small group of member countries of this Council, which maintain large files of serious human rights violations», questioned ambassador Valero.
The Venezuelan diplomat argued that the practice of imposing resolutions violates the fundamental pillars of multilateralism and the very functioning of the Human Rights Council, enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and the relevant resolutions of the General Assembly.
Venezuela also considered that Resolution 42/25 has no justification, and implies a clear duplication of efforts and resources in relation to the mandates contained in Council Resolution 42/4, referring to Strengthening cooperation and technical assistance in the sphere of human rights in Venezuela, which has the full support of the Bolivarian nation.
The Ambassador recalled that Venezuela is currently facing a multiform aggression led by the Government of the United States, while reiterating his country’s commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights and cooperation with the UN bodies on the matter.
