Venezuela detects 159 community infections and 72 imported Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours

A total of 159 community infections and 72 imported Covid-19 cases were detected in the last 24 hours by the Venezuelan health authorities, bringing the total number of infections to 3,386, while the death toll rose to 28.

The information was released this Wednesday by the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, after leading a productive work journey in Caracas.

“These are not good news, an alarm goes off amidst the battle against coronavirus”, warned the Head of State before starting the daily report, and where he also assured that this will force new, early, bold and radical decisions to be made despite having a very high control of the pandemic. However, he clarified that two delicate foci have been generated from Colombia and Brazil, from where the nationals have entered through irregular paths and have infected various sectors of the country.

He reiterated the call to Venezuelans to report the cases of compatriots who have entered the country without going through the epidemiological fence, since they endanger the lives of their families.

The National President detailed that 132 of the community transmission cases are related to the outbreak registered in the Las Pulgas Market in Maracaibo, Zulia state, which is equivalent to 67% of the daily cases, and where eight deaths have already been registered since the beginning of the spread of this strain that is more aggressive; seven others are from Aragua state, 4 from the Capital District, 3 in Miranda, 3 in Trujillo (the Las Pulgas market focus), 3 in Táchira, 2 in Carabobo, 2 in Bolívar, 2 in La Guaira and 1 in Sucre state.

Referring to the imported cases, he specified that 56 of them come from Colombia (29 came through Zulia and 27 from Táchira state) and 16 come from Brazil.

The death is a 41-year-old man from Los Frailes de Catia, in the Sucre parish of the Capital District, who worked as a nurse in a private health center. He was admitted to the Hospital Clinico Universitario where he received care but his health condition was complicated by presenting a previous illness.

“We cannot be over confident”, he urged, while announcing that the Presidential Commission for the Control and Prevention of Covid-19 is evaluating new special protection measures that will be announced in the next few hours.
