Venezuela rejects pretenses to invoke the activation of TIAR

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejected on Wednesday the claims of a group of countries, aligned with the interests of the United States (USA), to invoke the activation of the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance (TIAR):
“Venezuela denounces to the international community the infamous decision of a small group of governments aligned with the interests of the United States in attempting to invoke the invalid and null activation of the TIAR, a disastrous imperial instrument in the history of our continent”, wrote the Minister for Foreign Affairs Jorge Arreaza, in his account on the Twitter social network, accompanied by a communiqué.
In the text, published on the website of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Venezuela “does not accept nor recognizes any obligation arising from this Agreement, a shameful inheritance of neo-colonialism in Latin America and the Caribbean”.
Earlier, the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) – a body of which Venezuela is no longer part – approved the incorporation of Venezuela – headed by a “representative” appointed by the former deputy in contempt, Juan Guaidó – in the treaty, in order to seek support for a military intervention in the country.

Bolivarian Government categorically denounces the invocation of the disastrous TIAR
“The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically denounces before the international community and the peoples of the world the infamous decision of a small group of governments of the region that, aligned with the interests of the supremacist Government of the United States, invoked the activation of a disastrous instrument of the history of our continent as is the case of the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance (TIAR).
It is necessary to remember that the TIAR was imposed on our region by the United States within the framework of the Cold War, and its purpose was to legitimize military interventions in Latin America for ideological reasons. This happened in Guatemala in 1954, in Cuba in 1961, in the Dominican Republic in 1965, in Granada in 1983 and in Panama in 1989. It is also important to note that, when there was a real aggression of an extra continental power against a Latin American country, such as the case of Argentina in 1982 by the United Kingdom, the United States betrayed the continent and ignored its activation, aligning with its partner in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
It is painful that countries that were invaded by US troops and whose peoples were massacred in application of the TIAR, today endorse a similar crime against a brotherly country, in a clearly invalid and void session of the OAS Permanent Council. It will be the history and the peoples of the Big Homeland who are responsible for judging this unworthy attitude.
On May 14, 2013, the Venezuelan State denounced the infamous imperial instrument and, along with other countries in our region, has decoupled from it for ever. For this reason, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela does not accept nor recognizes any obligation derived from this Treaty, a shameful inheritance of neo-colonialism in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela makes a heartfelt call to the countries and peoples of the region, to firmly reject the claims of this small group of countries that, from within the Organization of American States (OAS), threaten the peace and integrity of Venezuela and from all over the continent.
Venezuela will continue to adhere to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, respect for international law, the practice of multilateralism and peace diplomacy, and in the search for dialogue amidst the diversity, coexistence and well-being of our peoples.”
