The Minister of Communication and Information, Freddy Ñáñez, on his account on Twitter @luchaalmada indicated this Thursday that the “Think Tank of #NATO are concerned about the support that @NicolasMaduro receives on Social Networks. That explains the censorship that Facebook committed against the account of the head of state. Today they create the matrices to continue silencing those of us who defend the truth of Venezuela”.
As a result of Facebook’s censorship against President Nicolás Maduro, on March 28 the government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly rejected, through an official statement, the censorship applied by the company administrating the Facebook social network to the account of President Nicolás Maduro, by eliminating the ability to broadcast live and blocking the aforementioned official account of the Head of State for 30 days for having presented the distribution plan in the country of the Carvativir retroviral drug.
The official statement issued by the Ministry of Communication and Information, condemned this unjustified and unilateral action by the administrators of Facebook, a company that «marked the content as false and arbitrarily suppressed it (…) thereby violating the right of 1,2 million users of said account, to accurate and timely information”, says the statement.
In another of its paragraphs, the text recalls that “It is not the first time that the Facebook company and its associates (WhatsApp and Instagram) abrogate the right to silence and sanction, at their discretion, the contents that the Head of State publishes daily —in the ethical use of freedom of expression, thought and opinion- relative to State policies and that are of high public interest for Venezuela and the world”.
