Russia bets for International Law on the situation of Venezuela

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, announced that the solution to the political situation in Venezuela is contained within the international law.
During a press conference to announce the advances of the meeting with his Colombian counterpart, Carlos Holmes Trujillo, the diplomat said that his government will act on behalf of that base: “The answer is contained within the framework of international law. We are going to act in favor of the crisis to be solved precisely on that basis”.
Lavrov confirmed that Russia and Venezuela are ruled by the principles of the Charter of the United Nations.
He stressed that the situation in Venezuela can not be solved with military threats by the United States, adding that Russia will not support those actions that “aim to create an illusion in the Venezuelan opposition” to take power in an illegal manner.
Finally, he underlined the importance of the dialogue carried out in Norway by the Venezuelan Government and the opposition in order to overcome conflicts:
“We advocate for an inclusive dialogue between the political forces of Venezuela, and we reject any interference in internal affairs that violate the Charter of the United Nations”, he concluded.
