Venezuela holds Colombia responsible for any new aggression

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, through an Official Communiqué issued by its Chancellery, makes the Colombian Government “responsible for any new aggression or attempt to promote from its territory or from the border areas any provocation against the Fatherland of Bolívar”

In the text of the communiqué is qualified as revealing the response of the Colombian Government to qualify as “alleged” to the frustrated assassination attempt, a fact that is public and notorious.

Following, the full text of the communiqué:

“The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has learned of Colombia’s position on the express denunciation of President Nicolás Maduro about the involvement of the Government of that country, and particularly of President Juan Manuel Santos, in the assassination attempt that occurred on August 4, 2018.

In that sense, the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela expresses the following:

1. It is revealing that the Government of Colombia qualifies as “alleged” a fact that was very public and notorious, as well as its intention to question the assassination attempt against President Nicolás Maduro.

2. It is surprising, to say the least, that the first reaction of the Colombian Government is not to condemn the assassination attempt, nor to express concern for the life and security of the Head of State of a neighboring country.

3. On the other hand, it is suspicious that the sole position of the Colombian Government is the defense at all costs to free President Juan Manuel Santos from any responsibility, when the permanent aggressions and provocations against the Venezuelan people and government are being ignored, and whose culmination were his recent statements affirming that he saw the near falling of President Maduro, as a chronicle of an announced assassination attempt.

4. President Santos’ calls for a change of Government in Venezuela are not unknown. To this end, it has facilitated and allowed the installation in headquarters of public authorities in Colombia of fugitives from the Venezuelan justice whose express purpose is to attempt against the rule of law in Venezuela.

5. It is unquestionable the economic aggression from Colombia against the Venezuelan people and the express omission of the Government of President Santos for fighting the mafias, paramilitary groups and criminal gangs that attack our country with multidimensional approaches and methods.

For the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela, history has shown that the obsession of the Colombian oligarchy for interfering in Venezuelan affairs knows no limits. The Venezuelan people in civic-military alliance has curbed their pretenses in the past and will do so in the future, and we will never submit to their whims and unsuspected objectives.

We hold the Colombian government responsible for any new aggression or attempt to propitiate from its territory or from the border areas any provocation against the Homeland of Bolívar.
