After the disclosure, on Tuesday afternoon, of the preventive detention order issued by the Ecuadorian National Court of Justice (CNJ) against former President Rafael Correa, for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of an opposition politician in Colombia, which occurred in 2012, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, described the measure as a persecution.
The President reiterated the solidarity of the Bolivarian Revolution and the Venezuelan people with the former Ecuadorian President, who is accused of the crimes of illicit association and kidnapping of the former opposition deputy Fernando Balda.
In his Twitter account, Maduro called for an end to the persecution of America’s progressive leaders: «First it was Cristina. Then it was Lula. Now it is Rafael Correa».
For his part, Correa also reacted to the measure qualifying it as «a farce», stating that he has been linked to this case without having any evidences.
