«We warn the charters of the medicine and vaccines transnationals that play with the interests of the Venezuelan people, that the Bolivarian Government will not buy medicines directly, we will acquire the necessary supplies through the Pan American Health Organization»
The information was offered this Monday by the Minister for Health, Luis Lopez, during his participation in the special program «Juntos por la Soberanía» (Together for sovereignty), broadcast by the RNV Network, in the company of the Deputy Minister of Ambulatory Health Care Networks, Indriana Parada.
During his statement, the senior official highlighted the permanent cooperation with the Pan American Health Organization for the acquisition of medicines as well as the support and accompaniment plans for the control, promotion, prevention and diagnosis of diseases with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. .
«Everything that has to do with oncology, medications for transplants, dialysis and diabetes, between 20 and 25 percent, we will address through PAHO, we will see if they will deny medicines to the PAHO» said the Minister.
Lopez explained that these actions are intended to end the mafias and thefts of sectors that play against the health of the patient: «We will break the ties we had in terms of drug supplies», he said.
The Head of the Health office, referred to several episodes that have faced the Bolivarian Government as a product of the criminal blockade suffered by Venezuelans, as occurred in the month of October of 2017, when the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, approved the resources requested for the acquisition of vaccines and medicines through the rotating and strategic fund of PAHO, with which all the necessary procedures were carried out through the National Development Fund (Fonden) for the disbursement of resources.
At the moment of requesting the coordinates to carry out the transfer of the payment, the MPPS was notified through Fonden that the banking certification corresponding to the UBS SWISS bank issued by the PAHO is not authorized to process said disbursement, therefore Venezuela is blocked, unable to make deposits in said bank. That is to say, the Venezuelan resources are not accepted in these banks, therefore this generated a delay in the payment and the consequent impossibility of the delivery by the PAHO of the vaccines.
This situation forced PAHO to open new accounts through banks in the Federative Republic of Brazil and therefore a criminal delay in the acquisition of vaccines for compliance with the vaccination schemes in the country.
