Government of Venezuela reiterates defense of territorial integrity over the Esequibo

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reiterates its defense of its territorial integrity based on the 1966 Geneva Agreement, the legal framework that governs the territorial dispute over the Essequibo.

Through a communiqué issued by the Foreign Ministry, the Bolivarian Government affirms that it will exercise all the actions before the corresponding legal, diplomatic and political instances, for the defense of Guayana Esequiba.

COMMUNIQUÉ:

The Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs, informs the Venezuelan people and the international community, that on June 4, 2018, was received a communication from the International Court of Justice, informing that the President of the Court will receive the Representatives of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, on June 18, 2018 in order to know the points of view of the parties regarding the procedural issues.

In this regard, the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, faithful to its historical position and in accordance with the Bolivarian Diplomacy of Peace, reiterates its firm willingness to defend the territorial integrity of our country based on the 1966 Geneva Agreement, a legal framework that governs the territorial dispute over the Essequibo.

Venezuela will exercise all the actions before the corresponding legal, diplomatic and political instances, privileging the high national interest and the permanent vindication of the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Venezuelan people over the territory of the Guayana Esequiba.

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will continue to defend sovereign rights over Guayana Esequiba and call for national unity to protect the most sacred interests of the Nation.
