The President of the Republic and commander-in-chief of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), Nicolás Maduro, reported on Thursday about the capture of the leader of a group that wanted to carry out a coup d’etat in the country.
“We are behind the main financier who is fleeing in Venezuelan territory. We are going to capture him and put him at the service of justice so that he will be punished with the maximum penalty for betraying the country and placing himself at the service of the Colombian oligarchy and US imperialism”, said the Head of State in a joint radio and television broadcast from the Military Academy in Fort Tiuna, Caracas.
During an act of reaffirmation of the FANB’s loyalty and commitment to the National Head of State, Maduro said that the idea of this group was to give a coup d’etat, “To impose a military regime and surrender the country” to the imperial axes.
Earlier, during the delivery of credentials to the National Constituent Assembly, President Maduro denounced that against Venezuela and the electoral process of May 20, factors of the Governments of the United States and Colombia were prepared to develop a series of plans “for generate military violence and try to avoid democratic elections in the country”.
Also, before the Military High Command denounced that a plan is underway to create warlike clashes on the Colombian-Venezuelan border, so he instructed the FANB to activate “maximum intelligence”.
In view of these facts, the President of the Republic demanded from the components of the military corps “maximum loyalty to the Constitution, to the people, to the Bolivarian Revolution and to the Commander-in-chief of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces”, in order to confront the new attacks perpetrated by the continental right wing, with support from the Government of the United States.
“From Colombia a conspiracy is directed to harm our Bolivarian National Armed Forces. They do it to weaken our Republic. The Colombian oligarchy has very clear objectives to try to appropriate the natural and mineral resources of Venezuela and for 200 years dreams of governing from Bogota to our beloved Venezuela”, he warned.
