Central Electoral Commission of Russia rejects interference against Venezuela

The representative of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Russia, Vasily Likhachev, strongly rejected any kind of direct or indirect interference in the internal affairs of Venezuela, ahead of the elections for President and legislative regional councils to be held this Sunday, May 20.

“All political parties and actors, as representatives of the media, must take into account their position and their respect in the elections of May 20, where the Venezuelan people will elect the president of the Republic who will lead them to the future,” expressed Likhachev, during a press conference at the National Electoral Council (CNE).

Likhachev noted that different nations based on democracy also support this position. He stressed the importance of sovereignty resides in the Venezuelan people to elect their first president, ensuring that Venezuela will demonstrate to the world on May 20: “how to conduct elections in a civilized and democratic way”, he said.

He added that democratic electoral processes deepen the sovereignty of nations before the world, highlighting the Venezuelan electoral system as one of the best in the world. “I think that this respect is going to increase after the presidential elections”, he said.

He highlighted the importance of the vote of women, youth, older adults and people with disabilities, evidencing the equality existing in the population and their desire to mark the course of the future through voting.

The CEC will be accompanying the elections in Venezuela, with seven experts who are part of this mission for the witnessing techniques in these elections.
