Venezuela and UNIDO sign agreement for agro-industrial development

The executive Vice-President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Tareck El Aissami, and the director of the program department of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Ciyong Zou, signed on Tuesday the Vienna Country Program Agreement-Vienna 2018- 2021, for the promotion of inclusive and sustainable development.

In the event, which took place at the headquarters of the Vice Presidency of the Republic, located in the center of the capital city, the representative of the UNIDO highlighted the willingness of the Bolivarian Government in the promotion of this program, which in a first phase, pursues the development of the agricultural sector.

«We trust in the commitment that Venezuela has to execute the Country Program and we believe that it will be executed and we will put our best effort so that the commitments of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 are achieved.»

The main objective of the Country Program is to strengthen the agroindustrial chains in priority areas such as: rice, white and yellow corn, coffee, soybeans and legumes (beans).

«We want to support the Venezuelan Government to transform its economy, from the rentier oil model to the diversified economy model», said Zou, stressing that for this they will apply the successful experiences gathered in other countries to achieve productive growth and industrial development.

The director of the UNIDO program expressed his confidence in the success of this initiative that they hope to replicate in other productive sectors of the country to «contribute to the development of a diversified economy in Venezuela».
