The Bolivarian Government rejected the pronouncements of the United States’s Department of State in a new attempt to ignore the will of the Venezuelan people that was expressed last October 15 in the elections convened by the National Constituent Assembly.
Read below the communiqué issued by the Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs:
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the attempts by the Government of the United States of America to ignore the sovereign will of the Venezuelan people, exercised through the vote on October 15, 2017, in strict adherence to its Constitution and legal system. The Venezuelan people participated in a sovereign, peaceful and overwhelming majority in these elections to elect, through a universal, direct and secret vote, the Governors of the 23 States of the country.
The pronouncements of the State Department of the United States of America are not surprising to the Venezuelan Government and the People, as it has been the case in recent years, the results of the Venezuelan elections and the will of its people are being ignored by the corresponding American administration, immediately after they are announced by the Venezuelan governing body on electoral matters. This kind of statements only serve to encourage and support the calls for chaos, instability, violence and extremism promoted by a minority sector of the Venezuelan society that has historically been supported and financed by the US Government.
In this regard, we denounce once more before the international community the systematic campaign of aggression, threats and interference by the US administration against the Bolivarian Homeland, in a clear violation of the norms and principles that must govern peaceful relations between States, on this occasion against its electoral system, despite the fact that it has been acknowledged as one of the most reliable ones at the international level, with physical evidences of electronic voting and one that enjoys several phases of auditing that guarantee both the transparency of act as well as the neatness of the system.
The successful elections held on October 15, 2017, which also had the usual presence of well-known national and international partners who have testified to the process, are an irrefutable example of the will and determination of the Venezuelan people to resolve their differences by the democratic way and the political dialogue, as well as its pacifist vocation and its unwavering desire to consolidate the country’s social stability.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in reaffirming its independent and sovereign character, strongly condemns the threats of the Government of President Donald Trump to impose its economic and diplomatic power over the Venezuelan people for it deciding to be in charge of its own destiny, without interference of any kind, in the framework of its vibrant model of participative and protagonist democracy.
