ANC will lay the foundations of the path Venezuelans will travel in the future

“We are in the responsibility to make a balance of what we have traveled to be able to lay the foundations of the future, the path we must take, with a great debate on economic matters.”

This was stated by Constituent Aristóbulo Istúriz, during the meeting of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) with the National Council of Productive Economy, held on Wednesday.

“We had 64% of poverty and we are at 19%; We had 34% extreme poverty and today we have 4.5%”, said the former Minister for Communes.

In his speech held from the headquarters of Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) in Caracas, Istúriz stressed that Venezuelans should be proud of what they have achieved.

“We prioritized the social scope since Chavez arrived … Had we not met the social demand we would not be here today, we are here today because, from the 300,000 pensioners we had, we reached 3,200,000 pensioners; We are here today because from a deficit of 3 million homes that our people had, 1,600,000 homes are already in the hands of the people; We are here today because we had 300,000 university students, and we are going for the 3 million”, he said.

The Constituent reiterated that the rentier economic model of the past was exhausted at a historical moment in which the country is the victim of an imperialist and oligarchic offensive.

“We are forced to build a new economic model in the context of an economic war, … President Maduro pointed the way by calling all the entrepreneurs and the Venezuelan opposition”, he said.
