Constituent Power has greater legitimacy than Colombian Government

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, condemned the onslaught of different foreign Governments against the installation of the National Constituent Assembly.

“It is a rude thing that some foreign governments have tried to say, that we must dissolve the Constituent Assembly (…) The ones who must dissolve are you, string of incapable ones that govern and destroy the countries of the Americas … you are the ones who have to self-dissolve and stop looting the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean. ”

He stressed that the originary power, elected on July 30, has more legitimacy than the Government of Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos.

“The Constituent is more legitimate than all the right-wing governments there exist … The Constituent more than doubled the votes that Juan Manuel Santos got, percentually, speaking of the register … it has more than double the popular legitimacy of that battered Government that gas destroyed Colombia”, he said.

He also condemned the interference of the US State Department regarding the appointment of the new Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab.

“How embarrassing are you, gentlemen from the (US) State Department. Each country is autonomous, that is a domestic matter (…) In the United States, the one who appoints the Attorney General is the President of the Republic, but in here is not like that, it is appointed by the legislative power, and in this case, the great Constituent Legislative Power, that can do everything, yesterday made a clear decision, necessary for justice and peace”, he said.
