CNE will not allow sabotage in Constituent electoral process

The National Electoral Council (CNE) is evaluating what to do to protect the elections of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) of the threats it has received from various opposition sectors.

“We are going to reserve legal and criminal actions, but we will not allow CNE workers to be threatened for carrying out their work, nor to prevent the electors from voting”.

The information was released on Sunday by the rector of the highest electoral body, Tibisay Lucena, during his participation in the “Jose Vicente Hoy” (Jose Vicente Today) program, broadcast by the private TV station Televen.

During the interview, Lucena warned that the institution she presides will not allow any political factor to disrupt the electoral process that will take place on July 30.

“We will propose at the next session of the CNE a request to go to the Supreme Court of Justice, to know what protection measures we must take to ensure the exercise of voting as it is appropriate in a democracy” she said, while adding that any voter may decide not to participate in an electoral journey, but can not prevent others from doing so, as it constitutes a crime.

According to the official, the proposal made by President Nicolás Maduro for the election of a National Constituent Assembly will provide Venezuelans with a space for dialogue and understanding, and so called for the participation of the entire population.

“Our path will remain that of peace, with our differences, during all these years we have chosen to live in peace. I trust the Venezuelan people who wants to build under democracy”.
