National Constituent Assembly is an absolute exercise of popular sovereignty

The first Vice-President of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (Psuv), Diosdado Cabello, said that the process of electing members of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) is an absolute exercise of popular sovereignty.

«It is a democratic exercise, whoever does not participate is missing the opportunity to participate in a great democratic party, and is missing the opportunity to make history».

This he asserted from Monagas state, during the formalization of his postulation as a candidate for the ANC, where he was accompanied by a large number of people to the regional offices of the CNE in the entity.

He said that in Monagas state only, have registered about 500 candidates in the 13 municipalities, in which are to be elected 14 constituents.

The Attorney General is acting as a political actor:

When asked about the appeal filed by the TSJ against the convening of the constituent, which was carried out by the Attorney General of the Republic, Luisa Ortega Díaz, Cabello stated that he has not seen the appeal and that, in any case, it is a personal action and not a power of the State.

«But I’m sure the Attorney General is acting as a political agent. We must remember that the Office of the Prosecutor is not a Power, it is a body of the Moral Power, one of the three that makes up the Moral Power», he said.

He recalled that the Magna Carta does not assign any constitutional attribution to the Prosecutor’s Office, and asserted that the one who has the rectory in constitutional matters is the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ).

He assured that, of being elected as a member of the National Constituent Assembly he will propose that this body assumes the functions of those who are not working. In particular, he pointed to the case of the National Assembly and the Attorney General’s Office.

He recalled that Article 349 of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela establishes that no constituted power may be interposed to the decisions of the National Constituent Assembly.
