«Those sectors of the opposition that seek to disrupt the constituent process do so because it is an exercise of freedom to which they fear.»
This statement was made by the constitutional lawyer Hermann Escarrá, during his participation in the «Dando y Dando-Radio» (Taking and Giving – Radio) program, broadcast by RNV Informative channel, referring to the constitutional process convoked by the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.
«The country is going to an election with a very plural multiplicity of candidates that will represent the different tendencies that make life in our territory, explained the interviewee.
«This initiative must be respected and if there are sectors that have something to object to, they must do so democratically within the framework of the Constitution,» he said.
During his speech, Escarrá explained that convening a constitutional process is one of the President’s powers to strengthen, with the debate, sovereignty and peace of the Republic, ratified in the Constitution of 1999, Magna Carta promoted by Commander Hugo Chavez.
«Once the process has been prosecuted, the National Constituent Assembly will tell the Venezuelan people what mechanism will be used to approve the Constitution, whether it be referendum, election or mega election, within the framework of democracy with universal, direct and secret vote», said the lawyer.
