Extremists and democrats fight in the MUD

The opposition coalition “Mesa de la Unidad Democrática” (Democratic Unity Board) (MUD), which after the electoral defeat suffered last October 15 is practically dissolved, suffers an intense conflict between the most extreme and conservative political tendencies, said on Sunday journalist José Vicente Rangel.

“For example, Henry Ramos Allup has been persistent in stating that he will not allow his Acción Democrática (Democratic Action) (AD) party to be led through blackmail to ultras positions, to the repetition of adventures like the “guarimbas” (riots), so he considered that the smartest thing was to abide by the mandate of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) as the originary power, regarding the oath of the elected Governors”, he said, during his television program “José Vicente Hoy” (José Vicente Today), broadcast by Televen.

He indicated that the far-right parties that still live in the opposition alliance propose to resume the path of violence to force a change of Government in Venezuela, and other more moderate conservative parties choose to resume the electoral and peaceful way as a way of doing politics .

“The ultras openly disagree, considering that with the current institutional structure, with the same National Electoral Council is impossible to make clean elections”, he said.

Rangel highlighted the role of the ANC in the restoration of the social and institutional normality of the country, after the violent escalation of more than 100 days, which between April and July 2017 pushed the parties of the MUD to provoke a foreign intervention or a violent interruption of the constitutional mandate of President Nicolás Maduro.

“What is clearly evident is that the Constituent Assembly opened a path for dialogue and peace, and those who do not accept that reality will be isolated and condemned to exercise a politics based on violence, which repudiates the decisive majority of the country”
