Due to contempt! TSJ declares unconstitutional reform of the Organic Law of Environment

The Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) declared as unconstitutional the reform of the Organic Law of Environment, sanctioned by the National Assembly (NA) last November.

“The unconstitutionality of the Law is declared (…) due to, among others, the contempt in which is the aforementioned Legislative Body”, says the TSJ ruling, published on its website

The decision is based, among others, on the condition of disrespect in which is the parliament, with an opposition majority, after failing to comply with a ruling of the Judiciary Power that orders the withdrawal of the three deputies by Amazonas state, whose election was contested for alleged fraud.

The evaluation of the reform approved by the Parliament was made at the request of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, who requested to review the constitutionality of said law.
