Parliament endorses National Consultation on Reform of the Criminal Justice System

The Parliament manifested this Tuesday its support for the Great National Consultation on the Reform of the Criminal Justice System, which was launched last Monday by the President in Charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, with the aim of gathering proposals from diverse sectors of the country to strengthen the Venezuelan judicial system.

In this sense, the Plenary approved the agreement presented by Deputy María Gabriela Veqa (PSUV/La Guaira), who justified the reasons for undertaking the consultation on reforming the criminal justice system.

The parliamentarian stated that the reform is not an academic debate, but a structural debt owed to the people, who can no longer wait in the face of the slowness, inequality, and abuses that erode trust.

She noted that procedural delays are a form of prejudicial condemnation, which disproportionately affects the most vulnerable: «Justice delayed is justice denied,» added Vega.

She considers it is vital to analyze the processes with the technology and strengthening of the courts with legal instruments, such as the reform of the Law of the Supreme Court of Justice.
