Ombudsman’s Office and UNHCR strengthen cooperation for the protection of vulnerable populations

Ombudsman Eglée González Lobato met with UNHCR High Commissioner Barham Salih to strengthen cooperation regarding the protection of refugees, returnees, migrants, and individuals in situations of particular vulnerability, including those affected by the earthquakes of last June 24.

During the meeting, González Lobato presented the experience of the Ombudsman’s Brigades. She highlighted this model as a fundamental tool for expanding territorial presence, identifying situations where protection is lacking, and providing timely responses—particularly in vulnerable communities and emergency scenarios.

For its part, UNHCR recognized the Ombudsman’s Office as a key ally. As a result of the meeting, both institutions agreed to deepen their joint efforts to strengthen training and protection capacities, aiming to provide more accessible and tailored responses that enable individuals to exercise their rights and rebuild their life projects.
