Through resolutions published in the Official Gazette, the National Government has retaken control over the administration and civil aviation infrastructure of the Arturo Michelena International Airport in Valencia and the Bartolomé Salom National Airport in Puerto Cabello (both in Carabobo State). This includes the associated authority for the preservation, management, and utilization of their facilities, assets, and services.
Official Gazette No. 43,443, dated August 24, establishes that the management of the two airports located in Carabobo State—which had been in the hands of that state’s government since 2018—would be reassumed by the company Bolivariana de Aeropuertos, S.A. (BAER), an entity attached to the Ministry of People’s Power for Transportation.
The resolution covers all functions related to supervision, commercial operations, and the maintenance of runways, aprons, and passenger and cargo service areas within Carabobo State.
Subsequently, via Official Gazette No. 43,446, dated August 27, BAER’s board of directors formalized the appointment of Raúl Antonio Spallone Márquez as the new general manager for both airport facilities.
It will be recalled that, following the damage caused by the double earthquake of last June 24 at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, the Valencia International Airport has increased its flight volume by taking on a portion of the air traffic previously handled by that terminal.
