Consulting Commission of the National Assembly defines proposals for the 2026-2031 legislative agenda

At the Federal Legislative Palace in Caracas was installed this Tuesday the meeting of the National Assembly’s Consulting Commission, where the president of Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, presented the priority work proposals for the 2026-2031 legislative period.

Deputy Rodríguez emphasized that the Assembly’s work will be centered on supporting the Venezuelan people during the constructive period the nation is currently experiencing, prioritizing the promotion of legal instruments aimed at deepening direct democracy and strengthening popular participation.

As a central focus of the legislative agenda, president Rodríguez announced the drafting and organization of eight major codes, with the objective of simplifying, modernizing, and providing greater clarity and coherence to the Venezuelan legal framework. This integral reform seeks to adapt legislation to modern times and guarantee a greater legal certainty for the citizenship.

Among the priority codes are highlighted:

– Criminal Code: For an ample review of those elements related to the administration of justice.

– Civil Code: Aimed at replacing the current one, which – according to Rodríguez – has «multiple patches» that are exploited by «unscrupulous lawyers» to the detriment of individuals and families. There is proposed a clearer, more coherent one, and easier to understand and implement.

– Trade Code: A new regulatory framework for the economic activity.

– Code of Direct Democracy and Communal Power: Aimed at consolidating a profound and authentic People’s Power, strengthening mechanisms for participation and communal organization.

– Social Code: A set of laws aimed at the integral protection of all groups in society, especially the family.

– Electoral Code: To update and strengthen electoral processes.

The president of the National Assembly clarified that the bills presented by the Board of Directors will serve as a guide and an initial proposal. He stressed that all initiatives arising from the national debate will be valued and taken into account, promoting an open and participatory legislative process.

With these actions, the National Assembly begins a work cycle focused on updating regulations and strengthening the Venezuelan legal system, with a view to guaranteeing greater protection and justice for all citizens.
